Abstract

This article aims at analyzing and characterizing the historical process of national park creation in Argentina, from its very beginning until the present day, by the enforcement authority, the National Park Administration (Administración de Parques Nacionales). The conceptual framework of this study includes the main theoretical conservation approaches developed through time, which - combined with the date when the national parks were created, their geographical location and the ecoregions in which they are located - have enabled us to delimit three periods marked by the application of public policies in this respect, framed by the general guidelines of such theoretical approaches. A brief outline of the preservation of the ecoregions in our country is also made before the conclusions are finally presented
