Population ageing and feminization in the Gran Paraná conglomerate. 2001-2010
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper focuses on the study of population ageing and feminization in the Gran Paraná conglomerate based on the information provided by the National Population, Home and Accommodation Census carried out in 2001 and 2010 (INDEC). During this period the Gran Paraná experienced population ageing due to a decline in fertility and an increased participation of people of 65 years of age and over in the population as a whole. Two key issues are highlighted in connection with such population ageing: the importance of relative participation of the extreme elderly (namely, people of over 80 years of age) within the population as a whole; and the population feminization of people over the age of 65. A higher number of women than men can be found in this age group.
