Social movements, territory and identity: Madres & Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo movement
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper aims at making a contribution to the study of social and socioterritorial movements from the field of Geography. In this respect and more specifically, we are interested in reflecting upon the importance that territory has gained within the development of the Madres & Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo movement, considering this as a socio-territorial movement which creates spatiality. That is to say, we are interested in how their struggle through time and especially through the appropriation of such a symbolic place as the Plaza de Mayo square, which is so significant in Argentine history, is inter-related with the construction of their identity as a movement, as well as how their social institutionalization in this space contributes to constructing the Argentine identity
