Territory transformations in Mar del Plata's peri-urban area
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study of territory transformations in peri-urban areas requires knowing how the activities carried out in the area have evolved. This paper analyzes the transformations which have taken place in Mar del Plata's periurban area since the 1990s, with an emphasis on the change of activities. In order to do this, a supervised soil-use classification, adjusted to the area's database, was performed based on satellite images taken in 1989 and 2009. Then, the transformations were analyzed taking into account different city structuring phases and a periodization was established based on the notions of regime and rupture. The study that has been carried out constitutes the basis for area settlement and development strategy generation, and the methodology applied can be extended to other territories
